The Higa’s S.O.S. was created by our buddy Spencer Higa. He originally tied it as a baetis nymph pattern and certainly can be tied in other colors to effectively imitate mayfly nymphs in your area. A majority of the time, we fish it under an indicator as part of a nymph rig and it can be fished as a dropper in a dry/dropper combo. Why fish like this bug so much, in my opinion, is the slender abdomen coupled with the floss split back. When the floss becomes wet it takes on a life like appearance that can’t be duplicated. Don’t overlook the stillwater application of this bug as well. When tied in callibaetis colors it can turn an ordinary day into a great day during the summer months.

The Higa’s S.O.S. is available through Orvis in 2011 but you can also get a great deal on these flies by contacting Spencer Higa directly at ifishfish@gmail.com. You can also follow his Facebook page!
