Scummy Browntown Brown

I’d been here before. Browntown. It’s not the type of place you want to be once the sun goes down. This particular neighborhood was especially scummy. Let me paint you a picture…a barren wasteland, a run down fence running across the river, and a mat of scum built up in front of it with who knows what lurking underneath. Now, if you’re a dirtbag, you might actually feel at home in a place like this. Me, it’s the last place I’d like to be – especially as evening sets in. I’d had run-ins with the locals here before but luckily came out unscathed. I had no idea what would happen showing my face around here again, but I had an inkling I was in for trouble.

Line ripped off the reel and a cast was bombed across stream parallel to the boarder of browntown. I shouldn’t be here. I’m not safe.

I carefully shot along the boarder in short bursts. My heart raced and the adrenalin pumped though my veins. Just as fight or flight set in, a THUG came out of nowhere and blindsided me. It was over. I knew I was asking for it coming here again, but now it was too late. I hit in hard and he was pissed. He shook me violently and tried to take me into the depths of browntown. I wouldn’t have it. I fought for my life and pulled for the safety of the open water and somehow, was able to stay in the clear. The bout lasted only a brief minute or two and I was freed from the jaws of death just in time.

I looked skyward and laughed the fear away. Adrenalin still surged but I soaked in the moment. I was alive. So very alive.
