We’re retarded. We had a destination in mind but it was going to be a decent drive to get there. We also had another spot that we’ve been wanting to fish for some time now but it was nowhere close to our final destination. Fishing both with the limited time that we had would mean fishing til dark (and likely well into the dark) then driving a few hours further.  One thing I’ve learned is that when you’re trying to decide whether or  a long drive and little or no sleep is worth it or not – don’t ask Derek. He’ll inevitably share your same poor judgement. Our first target was a river with very sizable Bonneville Cutthroat Trout. The awesome thing about these particular fish is that they’re fluvial. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many places left in our state to find our native species flourishing in river systems. When we arrived the water looked fishy. My first and best fish of the day came as I was chatting on the phone with the wife – checking in. I multitasked casting down and across while seeing how the lady was faring back at home. The hit came as my bug swung almost directly below me. “Babe…I’ll call you back in a second!” As My line was tugged around by my first native. I hollered to Derek and he came to inspect what was going on. Just as we had hoped, a solid cuttie. In fact, it was the best fluvial cutthroat I’d ever caught.  We didn’t get into too many fish in our short time before it got dark but they came from money holes and were all stacked. Fishing in the dark proved fruitless and we began the next leg of our journey. We’d definitely be back.  3 Responses Kyle June 25, 2012 Love it! Such pretty fish and BIG as usual.
